'We are about at the halfway point," Engineering Director Jil Arias told the council on Nov. 7. "Steel is up in the air and it looks like we're going to hit a target date of May 2023 at the rate things are going now.' City officials said the rebuild also will make the station better able to withstand storms. The current structure, which was built in the early 1980s, was last rehabilitated in 2004. The $4.1 million project to expand the public safety building, which shelters the city's police force and employees, is about three quarters complete, Arias said.
