The culmination of another storied coaching era of Friendswood Mustangs football unfolds Friday night. Robert Koopmann, who has guided the Mustangs to the playoffs in eight of the previous 10 seasons, is retiring as head coach and athletic director at the school he has served for the past 29 years. Koopmann is one of only three persons to lead the varsity football program at Friendswood in the past 57 years. Henry Winston patrolled the sidelines as the Mustangs head coach from 1965-1991 before Steve Van Meter took the reins for the next 20 years.
